Inter Pipeline is an integrated energy infrastructure business that owns and operates four business segments:
- Conventional Oil Pipelines - Comprised of the Bow River, Central Alberta, Mid-Saskatchewan and the Valley pipeline systems. Combined, these systems transport over 211,900 b/d to central and eastern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan.
- Oil Sands Transportation - Comprised of the Cold Lake and Corridor Pipeline Systems this business segment has over 1,900 km of operating pipeline and 2.7 million barrels of storage. The Oil Sands Transportation business is the largest oil sands gathering business in Canada - transporting roughly 600,000 barrels per day of bitumen blend.
- NGL Extraction - Comprised of the Cochrane, Empress II and 50% ownership of Empress V extraction plants located on the TransCanada natural gas transmission system at the western and eastern Alberta export points. In 2006 these facilities processed an average of 4.2 bcf/d of natural gas producing an average of 142,100 b/d of natural gas liquids.
- Bulk Liquid Storage - Simon Storage Limited is the largest independent bulk liquid storage business in the United Kingdom. This business segment consists of eight bulk liquid storage terminals with a combined liquid storage capacity of approximately eight million barrels. Simon's integrated operations also offer a broad range of complementary services through its bulk liquid trucking, engineering, training and facilities management divisions.
Inter Pipeline is dedicated to growing each business segment by the optimization of our asset base through efficiency improvements and the addition of new value-added services. Within our existing lines of business, we intend to set a new record for investment in "organic" development projects during 2007. Inter Pipeline has allocated $82 million toward growth capital projects and an additional $12 million in sustaining capital projects. These investments will primarily involve the further expansion of throughput capacity on the Cold Lake pipeline system, facility enhancements to recover more ethane volume at our NGL extraction plants, and the addition of new biofuel product handling facilities within our European operations. In addition, Inter Pipeline recently acquired the Corridor pipeline system, and has committed to completing the $1.8 billion expansion of this system which is expected to increase diluted bitumen capacity from 300,000 barrels per day to approximately 465,000 barrels per day by 2010. |
